Uniphar

A corporate website for a company on the brink of going public on the IPO

Showcasing the industry-leading expertise in a temporary setting.

Uniphar Group is a leading pharmacy and healthcare products retail, wholesale and distribution company operating in the UK and Ireland. An existing client of Monsoon Consulting for their eCommerce site, they approached us to provide a temporary redesign for their corporate website. As they were about to go public with their IPO, they needed their site to be refreshed, and provide a modern, responsive, and professional feel. They wanted to showcase all aspects of their company, what they do, products they own, and various content and articles to highlight how they are leaders in their market. However, for this redesign, we only had a handful of weeks to both design and develop the platform. Working as the main designer on the project, I worked closely with both the head of design as well as the developers on this project.

After an alignment meeting with the clients, we organised their content and the initial site flow through a site diagram. Once we received approval from the client’s side, we started work on user flows and wireframes. Through discussions with our development team and the product owner, we decided to focus on a simple design, using as many reusable components as we could in order to reduce development time.

While creating the wireframes, we focused on creating components that had multiple functions and uses so that we could reduce the development time in order to meet our deadlines. After various stages of iteration, I met with our development team to discuss the wireframes and align on our approach. After minor updates from this meeting, I shared the wireframes with the clients to receive feedback and approval. With only minor tweaks, I received sign off on the wireframes allowing me to dive fully into the UI.

The UI of the platform utilised aspects of the Uniphar brand guideline, however, as this was print-focused, we were able to make certain design decisions around button colours, functionality, and the use of curves over harsher corners. As Uniphar is based in the pharmaceutical industry we wanted to ensure we used plenty of white space to portray a professional, clean appearance, while combining imagery that depicts the people-focus values of the company and their future vision.

A reusable component driven responsive design

The final solution utilised a simple, reusable component-based design that focuses on both the content as well as key elements of the Uniphar brand. The design created a responsive solution, that considers the whole user journey across all devices. While being both usable, and accessible for its users, we also importantly met our deadlines and left our clients satisfied with the final solution.
