Problem

Uniphar Group is a leading pharmacy and healthcare products retail, wholesale and distribution company operating in the UK and Ireland. An existing client of Monsoon Consulting for their eCommerce site, they approached us to provide a temporary redesign for their corporate website. As they were about to go public with their IPO, they needed their site to be refreshed, and provide a modern, responsive, and professional feel.

They wanted to showcase all aspects of their company, what they do, products they own, and various content and articles to highlight how they are leaders in their market. However, for this redesign, we only had a handful of weeks to both design and develop the platform. Working as the main designer on the project, I worked closely with both the head of design as well as the developers on this project.

Wireframe / UX

As it was important for the clients to have all of their company services and offerings present on the site I began the process with an initial site flow in order to organise the content and align all of us on the approach. Once we received approval from the client’s side, we started work on user flows and wireframes.

Through discussions with our development team and the product owner, we decided to focus on a simple design, using as many reusable components as we could in order to reduce development time. After various stages of iteration and alignment meetings the client approved our approach with minimal updates allowing for the UI stage of the process to begin.

Design / UI

The UI of the platform utilised aspects of the Uniphar brand guideline, however, as this was print-focused, we were able to make certain design decisions around button colours, functionality, and the use of curves over harsher corners. As Uniphar is based in the pharmaceutical industry we wanted to ensure we used plenty of white space to portray a professional, clean appearance, while combining imagery that depicts the people-focus values of the company and their future vision.

The final solution utilised a simple, reusable component-based design that focuses on both the content as well as key elements of the Uniphar brand. The design created a responsive solution, that considers the whole user journey across all devices. A paticular highlight of the project was our use of a split screen banner on the homepage that users could hover over to access different segments of the Uniphar brand. This element was quite intensive and time consuming for our developers to produce, but the finished result offered an enjoyable and impactful experience for users as they arrived on the site.
